John Denver - Annie’s Song (1975)

Between the years of 1974 and 1975 John Denver released three platinum selling albums and four number one singles. Now, that’s impressive.

Annie’s Song is one of them. Enjoy this performance from Top Of The Pops in 1974. Oh, and there’s a ‘hilarious’ introduction from Dave Lee Travis and Noel Edmonds too…

 Babybird - You’re Gorgeous

Babybird’s most successful and memorable song is without a shadow of a doubt ‘You’re Gorgeous’. I feel that this was sung to so many a young lady during the 90’s as a way of expressing love, which just goes to add sentimental value to what is a good track. The song is apparently about how male fashion photographers exploit their models, which kind of ruins it a little, so i’m going to choose to ignore the subtext in this song. It reached number 3 in the charts and featured on ‘Now That’s What I Call Music 35’. This summer, four of Babybird’s albums are being re-released digitally, making some of them available digitally for the first time. ‘The Best of Babybird’ will also be released on CD on July 29th.

Kings of Leon - Molly’s Chambers

We are currently in the middle of a summer Kings of Leon tour, so far they have already played the incredible O2 Arena in London, and are currently at The MEN arena in Manchester. With the ‘Kings of Leon Collection Box’ released, and a new album possibly on the horizon, it’s time to get nostalgic with KoL. The song that got me into them was ‘Molly’s Chambers’ a perfect example of their original bluesy-rock fuelled songs. Since ‘Molly’s Chambers’ the band’s sound has changed a little, but they still remain a blues-rock band at heart…

 Moloko - Sing It Back

The Anglo-Irish duo known as Moloko are perhaps best known for the remixed version of their song ‘Sing It Back’, mixed by DJ Boris Dlugosch. Roisin Murphy wrote the song whilst out clubbing in New York, and knew at heart it would be a dance tune. However, the band recorded it in their usual ‘trip-hop’ fashion. The DJ Boris D. version was commissioned by the band themselves, and was released after the original remix wasn’t considered good enough. Moloko’s entire ECHO label catalogue is being re-released this July digitally, with their first two albums, ‘Things to Make and Do’ and ‘Statuses’, being released on CD as well.

 Morcheeba - Enjoy The Ride

Enjoy The Ride’ was the only single form the 6th studio album by Morcheeba.  It is a song about accepting who you are and where you are in life, and being able to enjoy it more.  The band enjoyed two top 10 albums but split in between their fourth and fifth albums, with singer Skye Edwards never to return.  ‘Enjoy The Ride’ Features the vocals of Judie Tzuke, made famous by the song ‘Stay With Me Till Dawn’ which reached number 16 in the UK singles chart in 1979.  Morcheeba’s Fifth and Sixth studio albums are being re-released this July digitally.
